2023 Pantone color of the year — who else is excited?! Hi friends, welcome to the New Year, and today’s episode is all about the Pantone color of the year, Viva Magenta (#18-1750). Before we dive into today’s episode, you may be asking yourself, What is Pantone? By definition, “Pantone is the universal language of color that enables color-critical decisions through every stage of the workflow for brands and manufacturers. Finally, designers can refer to colors by more than just generalized adjectives.”

Considering all of this, in today’s episode you are going to learn all about Viva Magenta, how you can work this color into your designs if you are in the wedding industry, and how you can imagine new ideas with what we may consider an atypical color.

Incorporating Viva Magenta into Design

1. Floral

While this may not be our typical go-to color for incorporating into the design, we have some fun and creative ways that Viva Magenta can be included in your wedding or rental designs, especially being the 2023 Pantone Color while working in the events and wedding industry. Being in the wedding industry, you have a huge role in being able to bring together your clients’ designs while also incorporating the newest designs and trends.

You may be asking how you can utilize this color in a tasteful way, perhaps you use this color in the typography on your invitations. A white paper with Viva Magenta type would be stunning and help set the tone for your event. Or perhaps you use this color in your napkins and tableware. The multiple tones of this color can work in your favor and give you a wide spectrum to work with for your event. Think accessories, shoes, jewelry, the possibilities are endless. 

A great floral element that we know and love is Bougainvillea. This flower grows on a branch and trails, making it a beautiful addition to installs, and is stunning on archways. The rich pink and magenta tones are jewel-like and take your breath away. Other gorgeous blooms with Pantone color are Roses, Ranunculus, Carnations, and so many more. Viva Magenta will be a great color for 2023 — it can lean burgundy or pink, making it easy to use and incorporate as the seasons shift and change from spring to summer to fall. We are used to burgundy tones being a popular color for fall weddings and events so bringing these tones into your event will be so much more fun!

2. Rentals

For the rental side of things, it may be hard to purchase and keep this tone of rentals in your inventory as it may not be a popular constant rental — an idea is to purchase a few statement pieces to bring into your inventory, rent them out and showcase how you can help the client bring in this rich jewel-like color into their design. You could keep this temporarily and then sell it once your peak season is over. Even bringing in Magenta linens, rugs, or even pillows for your lounges would be beautiful. Textiles and books would also be great options for weaving in this year’s color.

3. Lighting

It is also easy to bring this color in with your lighting. If your wedding or event has uplighting or spotlighting, you could have some Magenta undertones and create a unique look within your event if your floral and rentals are more white and neutral tones. Working with creative lighting would be such a fun way to showcase this stunning color. 

We are going to encourage you to pitch this color into your design decks this year — it may feel weird and atypical, but you can get so creative with this and break from the norm. It will be so fun to see how creatives all over the world bring Viva Magenta to life and work with this fun color. Remember, you are the expert; this could be a great way to lean into your medium to push your capabilities.
