So what exactly is SEO and what does this mean?! While it may seem boring to some, the time that you invest in your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is going to be what builds your business and elevates your brand. You want to set the tone by being searchable and easily accessible to your ideal client. So how do you optimize your website for SEO? Do your research. We recommend doing your homework on what hosting platforms are the best for what type of content and business you are, ensuring that your marketing team is taking the time to name images with specific keywords that lead to your business and that the online website is set up to locate what people are searching for.
We mostly go to Google when we are searching for something, right? You want to ensure that your website is SEO-friendly and you have done the work to pop up in search results. If I type in “Dallas Wedding Rentals”, of course, we want to be the first ones, or at least in the top 5, to appear. By creating stepping stones, you will surely build your business foundation to get you to where you want to be. This is truly the power of SEO and why it is very important.
Before we go any further, there are a handful of terms that are key to understanding SEO even easier and more convenient for you. These are the words that will make up your website and online presence in an internal space and an external space.
— COPY – a fancy way of saying “words” or “descriptors”. These are the words that will make up your website. You will want to have a good copywriter who can tie in SEO-driven keywords that will link your website with a Google search. These words can be internal and part of the build-out as well as external on your actual website pages.
— KEYWORDS – This is most commonly used in the SEO features of your website. Think about it like this — you will want to use words that are KEY in the functionality of your website. So if you are a rental company, use words like “events, event rental company, DFW rental business”. If you own a floral design company you will want to use words such as “Dallas floral designer, Texas luxury event florist, wedding florist”. Keep the terms you use in the same field of what you do and what you are marketing. If you are unsure where to start with your very own database of SEO words, we have a FREE Worksheet just for you! You won’t want to miss this!
— META DESCRIPTION – This is the back-end copy of your website and reiterates the front-end copy of your website. So what does this mean? For example, you might have a paragraph on your website that says, “Your Favorite Dallas-Fort Worth Rental Company” and by using terms like your location and what your business is, you are syncing up your front-end copy with your internal copy for a higher chance in your website being pulled up when searching.
— PAGE TITLE – Last but not least, you want to focus on your title page. This would be the pages like your About, Services, Portfolio, etc. You want these to have the copy and coordinating keywords that will link your pages when searched for online. Another key component to this and making sure that you rename the images that you are using on your website and in your portfolio. Perhaps make a Google Sheet of all of the keywords that relate to your business, whatever it may be, and rotate those keywords in the titles when renaming your images. By taking the time to do this step, you are giving your potential client or customer an advantage in finding or discovering your business.
A CTA is your Call To Action. This is the marketing method and implementation you are methodically utilizing so that your viewers and audience actually take an action step on your website. Whether they only inquire about your services and have further questions or they are ready to book, both action steps that are made have successfully done the job. Now we may think that this is understand, but my rule of thumb is to always assume that it isn’t. You want to make sure that you have a clear and concise CTA somewhere on each landing page of your website. These do not have to all be the same and can look different, but it is important to make sure you do implement this.
Content Is King –
Another layer to all of this work is the phrase “content is king”. You want to maximize the way that you are using your content so that it is beneficial to you and your business in the best way possible. Think about what social platforms you are using. Are you maximizing the potential from each of them? Your content is so important when it comes to your SEO. Some ideas are: you can use a photo from your website as the blog cover image, then you can place your logo on the image for your social media posts, then create a Pinterest graphic and link to the blog that you posted, then share with your community on LinkedIn. This is a quick way to market your business, but there are so many that you can choose from and get creative with.
Okay, so you have done all of this work, now what do you do with it? Track it, duh! You want to make sure that all of this work you have poured so much of your time into is actually bringing an ROI. By measuring these metrics, you are ensuring that you are not wasting your time with the efforts you are implementing and ensuring to see results.
