Are you looking to start a business? There are so many questions when it comes to entrepreneurship at ANY age, but especially when you’re young and just starting out. Today, Cam is sharing her story of starting her business and what she wishes she had known!
In honor of our 11 year anniversary, we wanted to share a little bit of how it all started and some of the things Cam wishes she has known.
Cam graduated in 2010 and started her business right away! She moved to Phoenix, Arizona and ended up working on her business while also working at David’s Bridal! During that, she also went to school at New York Institute of Art and Design and did their wedding planning track to learn all about the different styles, traditions, and cultures for weddings. The schooling gave her the knowledge that she still uses to this day in rentals and floral!
In 2014 after doing wedding planning and bridal dress sales for the last four years, Cam moved to Dallas, TX and decided to make a switch. Cam went full on rentals and stopped the wedding coordinating business. She had been collecting decor pieces from clients who didn’t want their decor anymore and thought, “Why not!?” Over the years we have hired staff and scaled the business to now offer rentals, floral, education, and interior design.
The three things we think that all young entrepreneurs should know is this:
Not everything needs to be done right now and you don’t need to scale overnight. It is okay to go slow. It is okay to set a goal and have a completion date for months (or years) away. Keep your head down and work on you and your business at your own pace
Make sure that you are prepped for being busy! While it may feel far away, busy season will come. Be prepped for new hires, create SOPs, and plan out your months in advance. That way, you feel prepared when the season comes.
Making time for important things in your life like friends and family. Don’t let work consume your whole life. Take time for yourself and the people around you!
We hope that these 3 tips help you in your entrepreneurship journey! We are so proud of you for taking the steps to be a great leader and business owner.
