Are you ready to start buying wholesale for your rental company, but don’t know where to start? In today’s show, Cam explains the perks of buying wholesale and the terminology you’ll need to know before shopping!
What’s the difference between wholesale and retail?
Wholesale is typically half the cost of retail pricing. As you can imagine, that is really beneficial for us rental companies! Additionally, wholesalers primarily ship, so it can take a lot longer than running to CB2 to grab something. Retail is great when you need something fast, but you’re paying for convenience and higher prices. However, keep in mind that you may have to meet order minimums when shopping through a wholesaler. This could be anywhere from $150 – $2000, it really just depends on who you are working with.
Market Centers in the U.S. that are great for rental companies
We live 5 minutes from the Dallas Market Center! This is so convenient when we want to run in to see how a product looks in-person. Even if you aren’t near one of these Market Centers, we highly recommend taking a business trip to check out the products in-person. They do have online galleries, but we’ve found talking to our wholesalers in-person helps us understand shipping time frames and the quality of their products.
Some cities we are familiar with:
Dallas
Vegas
Los Angeles
Chicago
High point and Moore
New York
Terminology to note!
On the water: This means the product is being shipped from overseas and it’s currently on a boat
In-stock: Physically at the distributor
Dealer: You will see a lot of different prices on the price tags, but as a rental company, the price we pay is the DEALER price. Pro Tip: If you don’t want to spend time explaining to your wholesaler that you are a rental company (they may not be familiar with this idea) then a simple answer is that you are an interior designer! We are purely designers for events, and we have found that this is the easiest explanation for our company!
